How to clean eggnog from your carpet

Eggnog is a drink consisting of rum, brandy, or other alcohol mixed with beaten egg, milk, and sugar. This means not only will it stain it will also smell!
Lift the bulk with a spoon and then grab some paper towels and blot up as much excess eggnog as you can. Then use cool water to dilute the remaining stain remembering not to overwet your carpet as this can lead to mildew and mould issues later on. Blot again with dry paper towels.
Mix a solution of warm water with a teaspoon of washing-up liquid and transfer to a spray bottle. Apply to the stain and allow it to sit for around 15 minutes to allow it to break down the proteins. Use a clean white microfibre cloth to blot away any residues. You may need to repeat the process to eliminate the stain completely.
You can help get rid of any unpleasant lingering odours by mixing a cup of white vinegar with two cups of warm water and working through the spray process. Finish by carefully rinsing with warm water and blotting until your carpet is completely dry.

How to clean cranberry sauce from your carpet

A cranberry sauce stain is really noticeable due to its deep red colour. Remove any excess sauce with a spoon before applying a mix of washing-up liquid and warm water to the affected area. Use a sponge to blot up the excess liquid and lift the stain.
Alternatively, you can mix a solution of a teaspoon of white vinegar combined with ¼ cup of rubbing alcohol. Sponge off excess and carefully rinse with warm water before drying your carpet completely.

Absorb as much of the spill as possible with paper towels, blotting from the edge to the middle. Spritz the stain with cool water and blot again. Mix a solution of a tablespoon of white vinegar, one tablespoon of washing-up liquid and two cups of warm water.
Dampen a clean cloth with the solution and dab at the stain until it’s absorbed into the cloth. Change to a clean cloth and repeat. Finish by rinsing with cool water being careful not to oversaturate your carpet. Dry the area fully with a clean dry cloth.

To use this method of ammonia and warm water mix you’ll first need to do a spot test on a hidden area of your carpet to see if there’s any reaction. Bear in mind that ammonia can affect the carpet colour and the fibres themselves.
Mix one tablespoon of ammonia with two cups of warm water and spray the solution onto the stain. Work the stain from the outside towards the centre with a clean white cloth before rinsing thoroughly with warm water. Remember to dry the area thoroughly with a clean white towel to avoid future issues with mildew.
